Sunday afternoon, the Atlanta Falcons will take the field at Bank of America Stadium as they face the Carolina Panthers.

The Atlanta Falcons went into their last game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hoping that they could end their 5 game losing streak. In the end, the Falcons earned a harder than expected 27 - 17 victory. The Falcons would be the first to say that they didn't play as well as they could have against a Buccaneers team that seems to find ways to lose games. Atlanta let Tampa Bay hang around and the Falcons needed a touchdown and a field goal in the 4 ^th quarter to come away with the win. But in their next game, Atlanta will face a divisional rival that is also trying to regain some semblance of respectability in a NFC South division full of mediocrity.

The Carolina Panthers played some of their worst football this season in their 45 -21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Carolina opened the game with 2 quick turnovers that helped the Eagles build a 10 - 0 lead. But the Panthers cut the lead to 10 - 7 and it seemed that they would get back in the game. But they didn't. Philadelphia scored 35 unanswered points and by the time Carolina scored 2 touchdowns late in the 4^th, the game was already over for the Panthers. Amazingly, the Panthers still have a shot to get back in the playoff hunt thanks to a very weak NFC South division where the division leading New Orleans Saints are only 4 - 5 on the year. If Carolina wants to make a run at the division lead, they will have to start with a win over the Atlanta Falcons.
