MetLife Stadium will host its first 2014 New York Giants football game in week 2 of the National Football League regular season. The Giants, coming off an embarrassing 35-14 loss on Monday night to the Detroit Lions, will look to rebound in a division where only the Philadelphia Eagles were victorious in. The Giants will welcome the Arizona Cardinals to East Rutherford, N.J. for the game. The Cardinals are coming off a Monday Night Football win, where they scored the last 12 points and ousted the San Diego Chargers, 18-17.
New York will look to get a better performance from quarterback Eli Manning. He has had a serious issue in protecting the football in the past several years and threw 2 interceptions in the opening day loss. He threw for just 163 yards and a touchdown and finished the game with a 53.0 QB rating. In the running game, the Giants will look to their week 1 leading rusher, Rashad Jennings, to get more than the 46 yards he was able to collect against the Lions. Jennings also added 4 receptions for 50 yards, while Larry Donnell added 5 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.
The Cardinals didn’t look like offensive superstars throughout the 4 quarters, but proved that by having a good defense that can keep the game close, anything can happen. The Cardinals got more than 300 yards from Carson Palmer, who added 2 touchdowns, was only sacked twice, and had a QB rating of 108.4. Andre Ellington paced their rushing attack with 53 yards on 13 carries. Palmer has a talented group of wide outs, but it was Michael Floyd (5 receptions, 119 yards) that lit up the stat sheet. Larry Fitzgerald was limited to just 1 catch in 4 targets, both numbers that will need to increase should they want to compete in the NFC West.
