Pittsburgh at Louisville Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/28/2013
Is it time to worry about Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals, or has the team simply hit a wall while awaiting March Madness? As of this writing, the Cardinals (16-4, 4-3 Big East) are No. 5 in the polls, but they certainly will drop out of the Top 10 when Monday’s new polls are released. Louisville was beaten 53-51 at Georgetown on Saturday, the team’s third straight loss (0-3 ATS). How unusual is that?
New Mexico at San Diego State Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 1/26/2013
Quick: name me the top three college basketball conferences in the country. I am willing to bet – because that’s what I do – that you forgot about The Mountain West. According to the RPI, the most commonly referenced tool for gauging college basketball strength, the Mountain West Conference it he second-best conference in the country. Ken Pomeroy, one of the most well respected statisticians in the sport, has the Mountain West Conference as the No. 3-ranked conference in the country, behind only the Big Ten and the Big East.
Canisius at Rider Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/25/2013
Last week, in my Friday NCAA basketball free picks story, I looked at Stony Brook and Vermont, contenders in the America East, which certainly will be a conference that will send only one team to the NCAA Tournament. That also will be the case for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and a key matchup for MAAC Tournament seeding is Friday night in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, when Rider hosts Canisius.
UCLA at Arizona Picks and College Basketball Betting Odds
by Dave Schwab - 1/24/2013
This Thursday night at the McKale Center the UCLA Bruins and the Arizona Wildcats clash in a huge Pac-12 tilt between two of the top contenders for the regular season conference crown. The game is set to tip off at 9 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
Butler at La Salle Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 1/23/2013
When last we saw Butler they were doing what they do best — crushing the dreams of a high-profile program in dramatic fashion. This time the victim was Gonzaga on Saturday night,, and it was a play in the final seconds that sealed the win. Now they have to get focused again and try to put their best game forward on the road here in what could be a tricky spot.
Louisville at Villanova Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Dave Schwab - 1/22/2013
The Louisville Cardinals will be going for their 17th win of the season this Tuesday night when they square off against the Villanova Wildcats at the Pavilion in this Big East Conference matchup. Game time for this conference clash is set for 8 p.m. (ET), and the game will be available on ESPN3.
Cincinnati at Syracuse Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/21/2013
If you like upsets in college basketball, the past week-and-a-half or so has been thrilling as five Top-5 teams have been knocked off. The latest was No. 1 Louisville, which will only spend one week at the top of the polls following the Cards’ 70-68 home loss to No. 6 Syracuse on Saturday. The Orange definitely have a claim to No. 1, but it’s unlikely they are able to jump that high as they didn’t receive a single first-place vote in last week’s AP poll – the other five teams ahead of them each got at least one. Duke, the only other team to beat Louisville this season, probably returns to the top spot.
Gonzaga at Butler Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 1/19/2013
Who is the best mid-major program in the country? That has been a consistent argument in that weird little subculture of people in the world that argues about mid-major college basketball programs. For the past decade, people have discussed the merits of the best teams from the non-BCS-affiliated conferences. There are a host of great teams worthy of acknowledgment; VCU, Creighton, UNLV, San Diego State, BYU, Xavier, Memphis, and George Mason have all been excellent in this millennium.
Stony Brook at Vermont Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/18/2013
Part of the allure of previewing Friday night college basketball games is that I get to learn a bit more about teams I might only see in the first round of the NCAA (or NIT) Tournament. Of course, it’s also a bit of a challenge from a research perspective. There are only three games on the college basketball schedule on Friday night this week, and clearly the best of the bunch is Stony Brook at Vermont (on ESPNU), two schools I at least know a bit about.
Georgia Tech at Duke Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Dave Schwab - 1/17/2013
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have the unenviable task of trying to snap a three-game losing streak with a trip to Durham this Thursday night to tangle with the Duke Blue Devils, who are coming off their first loss of the season. All the action is scheduled to get underway at 9 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Michigan State at Penn State Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 1/16/2013
Michigan State is a very good basketball team. They are loaded with talent, they are 14-3 and 3-1 in the tough Big Ten, and they are built to do some damage in the spring. The problem, though, is that they have yet to really show what they are capable of. They have struggled with consistency, they have made winning much tougher than it needs to be in some cases, and they turn the ball over with alarming frequency.
