Sunday night, the Wisconsin Badgers will take on the Northwestern Wildcats. 

The Wisconsin Badgers closed out 2014 on a high after extending their win streak to 6 with an 89 - 72 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions on New Year’s Eve.  After the Badgers opened up on an 8 – 0 run things got tighter in the 1st half. The lead went back and forth before the Badgers took a 43 -36 lead at the half.  In the 2nd half, Wisconsin never trailed as they slowly and steadily pulled away from Penn State.  The Badgers were led by Nigel Hayes and his 21 point effort as Wisconsin shot 63% overall and 46% from the distance.   The big win sets up a showdown with the equally powerful Northwestern Wildcats for early control of the Big 10.

The Northwestern Wildcats edged the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 51 – 47 on Tuesday for their 4th straight victory.  Rutgers took the early lead and they held it for most of the 1st half.  But Northwestern closed out the half on a run that gave them a 27 -22 lead at the break.  The Scarlet Knights came close to regaining the lead a few times in the 2nd half but they just couldn’t find a way past the Wildcats.  Northwestern shot just 39% from the field and 35% from3-point distance as they were led by Bryant McIntosh and his 17 points, including the 2 free throws that sealed the victory. Another close game will be on tap for the Wildcats as they attempt to extend their win streak while ending Wisconsin’s.
