Sunday afternoon, the UCLA Bruins will face the Utah Runnin’ Utes.

The UCLA Bruins saw their losing streak extended to 4 games on Friday night as they lost their Pac-12 opener 62 -56 to the Colorado Buffaloes.  The Bruins hadn’t lost to the Buffaloes in over half a century and history seemed to be on UCLA’s side early on.  The Bruins led for the first few minutes but then the Buffaloes took control.  The 1st half became a battle of wills with the Buffaloes holding a slim 28 -27 lead at the half.  UCLA regained the lead early in the 2nd half and they managed to hold it until midway through the half when the Buffaloes again began to rally. As the game drew to a close, the Buffaloes pulled ahead just enough to steal the win.  Norman Powell led the Bruins with 22 points but UCLA was doomed by their poor shooting (31% from the field and 23% from beyond the arc).  Better shooting might not even be enough against a hot Utah team. 

The Utah Runnin’ Utes beat the USC Trojans 79 -55 on Friday to make it 4 wins in a row. It was a close game early on for the #10 ranked team in the nation but the Utes broke it open midway through the 1st half.  By the break, Utah was up by 17 points and they weren’t finished. The Utes continued to pour it on in the 2nd half as they stayed comfortably ahead of the Trojans for the rest of the way.  Utah was paced by Jordan Loveridge’s 14 points as the Utes shot 56% overall and 57% from the distance.  By winning their Pac-12 opener in impressive fashion, the Utes might have served notice that they are a team to watch.
