Saturday afternoon, the Syracuse Orange will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Syracuse Orange made it 3 in a row on New Year's Eve after beating the Cornell Big Red 61 - 44. Scoring was tough to come by in the opening minutes as both teams missed shots. Syracuse found their scoring touch first and they went on a 14 - 2 run that gave them the early edge. At the half, the Orange was up by the low score of 23 - 12. The scoring picked up in the 2^nd half but Cornell was in too big of a hole to really mount a comeback. Rakeem Christmas led the way for Syracuse with a 19 point performance as the Orange shot 48% from the field and 33% from a distance. The Orange looks well prepared to make some noise in the ACC as conference play begins.

The Virginia Tech Hokies saw their 4 game win streak end on Tuesday after they lost 81 - 52 to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Things started off on the wrong foot for the Hokies as they fell behind early in the face of an 11 -2 run to start the game for West Virginia. Despite the bad start, the Hokies recovered and cut the deficit down to just 3 points at the half. The Hokies managed to hold on early in the 2^nd half but they couldn't keep it up. Missed shots and turnovers shutdown any potential Virginia Tech comeback. The Hokies shot 46% overall and 28% from 3-point land as they were led by the 10 point efforts of Adam Smith and Satchel Pierce. If Virginia Tech wants to have any chance in the ACC, they will need to minimize the mistakes as conference play begins.
