Saturday night, the Penn State Nittany Lions will face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The Penn State Nittany Lions saw their 10 game win streak end on New Year's Eve as they fell 89 - 72 to the highly ranked Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin opened the game on an 8 - 0 run but Penn State quickly recovered to make a game of it early on. The Nittany Lions held the lead at times before giving it up as the half drew to a close. But the Wisconsin lead at halftime was just 43 - 36 and Penn State still had a chance to extend their win streak. The Badgers pulled away early in the 2^nd half and that gave them the momentum that carried them to victory. The Nittany Lions shot 53% overall and 41% from 3-point land but they allowed Wisconsin to shoot 63% and 43% respectively and that hurt Penn State. D.J. Newbill led the Nittany Lions with a 29 point effort. If the Nittany Lions can give Newbill some help, they can get back on the winning side of the scoreboard.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights ended their 2 game win streak by losing 51 - 47 to the Northwestern Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon. Rutgers took the early lead and held it for most of the 1^st half. But in the closing minutes of the half, Northwestern took over. The Wildcats led 27 - 22 at the half. The 2^nd half was a tight affair as the Scarlet Knights just couldn't find a way to eliminate a relatively small Wildcats' lead. In the end, the Wildcats just made the shots when they needed to. The Scarlet Knights were paced by Myles Mack's 15 point effort as Rutgers shot just 30% overall and 27% from the distance. Rutgers was lucky to lose by a small margin considering the fact that they shot extremely poorly. Thirty percent shooting will not win many games and in most cases, it will lead to a blowout loss.
