Monday night, the Indiana Hoosiers will take the court against the Michigan State Spartans.

The Indiana Hoosiers closed out 2014 with a victory after beating the Nebraska Cornhuskers 70 - 65. It didn't take Indiana long to stretch out against Nebraska. By the midway point of the 1^st half, the Hoosiers had almost a double digit lead. But Indiana might have gotten ahead of themselves as they surrendered their big advantage to go into the locker rooms at the half up by just 8. And that lead disappeared early in the 2^nd half in the face of some hot Nebraska shooting. Indiana regained their composure in the later stages of the game to pull away one last time to seal the victory. The Hoosiers were paced by Robert Johnson's 14 points as they shot 45% from the field and 29% from the 3 point line. Indiana will need a more complete effort to ensure a victory over the Spartans.

The Michigan State Spartans dropped their last game of 2014 when they fell to the Maryland Terrapins 68 - 66 in double overtime. The game went back and forth in the opening minutes but the Terrapins were the first team to slightly pull away. Michigan State stayed close and they were down by just 3 points at the half. The scoring picked up in the 2^nd half and neither team could find a way to hold the lead long. The Spartans took control late and almost won the game in regulation but a late 3 pointer from the Terrapins sent the game to overtime. A tight first overtime period sent the game to a 2 ^nd overtime period where Maryland was finally able to outlast Michigan State. The Spartans shot 32% overall and 22% from the distance as they were led by Travis Trice and his 26 points. Without better shooting, the Spartans won't have a chance against the Hoosiers.
