Free College Basketball Picks: Florida State at Maryland Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/7/2014
The Florida State Seminoles travel to the Comcast Center this Saturday afternoon to tangle with the Maryland Terrapins in a battle between two middle-of-the-road teams in the ACC. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. (ET), and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
The Seminoles climbed to an even 5-5 straight up in conference play with a spirited 70-50 rout of Virginia Tech this past Wednesday as 13-point home favorites. This snapped of string of five straight games in which they failed to cover while going 1-4 SU. The total has stayed “under” in three of their last four outings.
Maryland is also 5-5 SU in the ACC after losing to North Carolina 75-63. It failed to cover as an eight-point road underdog, and the total stayed under the 149.5-point closing line. The Terrapins are now 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in their last five games, and the total has stayed under in four of their last six contests.
Florida State vs. Maryland Betting Storylines
Florida State came into its ACC schedule with a respectable 9-3 SU record in nonconference play that included quality wins over VCU and Massachusetts when both teams were still ranked. One of its five conference wins was a solid 85-61 victory over Maryland as a 6.5-point home favorite on Jan. 12, but it has had its share of troubles since that win. The low point was last Saturday’s four-point loss to Clemson as a 7.5-point favorite at home.
The Seminoles are averaging 71.1 points a game and shooting a respectable 47 percent from the field. Defensively, they are holding teams to an average of 63.5 points, but this number has eclipsed 74 points in four of their last six games. Florida State has a trio of players averaging right around 13 points a game, with Okaro White leading the team in rebounds (6.8) and Ian Miller leading in assists (3.2). As a team, it is pulling down an average of 35.9 rebounds a game.
The Terrapins shot just 39 percent from the field in the loss to the Tar Heels after shooting 51.8 percent in a 20-point victory over Virginia Tech last Saturday. They are hitting an average 43.8 percent of their shots from the floor this season, and this number drops to 35.4 percent from 3-point range. Maryland has also had consistency issues from the foul line; converting on 65.7 percent of its attempts. The Terps are averaging 72.3 points a game, but the margin for error remains pretty slim with a defense that is allowing 69 points a game to their opponents.
To even the season series at one game apiece, Maryland will need another big effort from Dez Wells. He leads the team in scoring with 15.2 points while shooting 48.7 percent from the field. There is some decent depth on the roster with four other players scoring in double-figures. Jake Layman is the biggest threat from outside with a shooting percentage of 38.7 from beyond the arc.

Free College Basketball Picks: Florida State vs. Maryland Betting Predictions
The Seminoles rolled to a relatively easy victory the first time these two met. However, there are some strong betting trends favoring the home team in this matchup. The other thing favoring the Terrapins is Florida State’s current form. Look for a tight battle between two evenly-matched teams, but the play in this one is Maryland covering the points at home.
