Tuesday night, the Western Illinois Leathernecks will face the Memphis Tigers.

The Western Illinois Leathernecks notched their 2nd victory in a row with a 78 - 68 win over the Alabama State Hornets back on December 13th.  Western Illinois shot out of the gates and they were the better team early on. By halftime, the Leathernecks were up by 14 points.  The Leathernecks kept up the pressure in the 2nd half as they built on their lead the rest of the way.  Alabama State just couldn’t come back from their early deficit.  Western Illinois shot 45% from the field as they were led by Garret Covington’s 18 point effort.  While they easily got past Alabama State, Memphis will be a lot harder to get past for Western Illinois.

The Memphis Tigers picked up their 3rd win in a row on Saturday with a 78 – 63 victory over the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.  Oral Roberts managed to stay close to Memphis in the early going but by the midway point of the 1st half, the Tigers started to pull away from the Golden Eagles. At the half, Memphis was up by 7.  In the 2nd half, the Golden Eagles tried to mount a comeback but they were brushed back by a stifling Tigers defense. Oral Roberts got as close as 4 points before Memphis pulled away for good to seal the win.  Memphis was paced by Austin Nichols and his 15 points as the Tigers shot 42% from the field.  The Memphis defense will probably have little trouble with Western Illinois and that might be the key to a 4th straight win.
