On Friday night, the Western Carolina Catamounts will attempt to snap their two-game losing streak when they face the high-scoring Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Catamounts are currently just 1-4 on the road, while the Gophers are 3-0 on their home court.

Western Carolina did not take care of the ball in their game against East Tennessee State on Wednesday night and ended up losing 96-89 on the road. They did make 49.3 percent of their shots in that loss, but they also turned the ball over 17 times.

The Catamounts have had one of the worst defenses in the country so far this season by giving up 74 points per game. Their best player has been senior guard James Sinclair, who has averaged 18.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game through their first eight games.

On Tuesday, Minnesota won their second consecutive game by easily defeating Wake Forest 84-69 on the road. They did turn the ball over 20 times in that game, but they were also able to make 12 of their 24 three-point attempts.

Through their first seven games, the Golden Gophers have been able to score 76.1 points per game against their opponents. Senior guard Andre Hollins currently leads the team in scoring with 13.9 points per game, while forward Maurice Walker has been able to score 10 points per game while bringing down a team-best 5.1 rebounds per game.
