The 16th seeded Coastal Carolina Chanticleers find themselves the biggest underdog in Friday's games with top ranked Virginia being posted as 21 point favorites. It's common knowledge that a 16 seed has never beat a #1 but the Chanticleers can take comfort in the fact that Virginia has never won a tournament game under coach Tony Bennett.
Virginia is riding high after capturing the ACC tournament and earning the 4th number one seed in school history. The Cavaliers got 23 points from Malcolm Brogdon to topple Duke in the title game. Virginia was solid on defense in holding the Blue Devils to a 38% field goal percentage to win their first ACC title in 38 years as 1 point underdogs. Brogdon is the main Virginia force but Joe Harris and Mike Tobey are clutch performers as well and reserve Anthony Gill had a solid enough tournament to earn 2nd team All-ACC honors.
Coastal Carolina has their work cut out for them against the #1 scoring defense in the country. Compounding that fact is the point that the Chanticleers rank 200th in the nation in field goal percentage. Still, the back court of Elijah Wilson and Warren Gillis combine for over 30 points a game and will look to help Coastal Carolina conquer what many consider the impossible.
