On Feb. 3 of this year, the Xavier Musketeers visited the Villanova Wildcats at the Pavilion. In a chippy game between these two, Villanova was able to come out on top behind James Bell's deep shooting. Bell led the Wildcats with 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a block. He was also 6-of-10 from three and 10-of-14 overall.
There was moment in this game where things almost got out of hand. Semaj Christon pushed Daniel Ochefu after hitting a 3-pointer that brought Xavier within 12. Bell took Ochefu to the side so he would keep his cool and to refocus on the game. Bell then came back out and knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to put the game out of reach.
Jayvaughn Pinkston had 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Wildcats. Darrun Hilliard II also contributed with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
Xavier was led by Matt Stainbrook with 14 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and a steal in this game. The Musketeers will be looking to get some revenge as the Wildcats will be visiting them this time around.
The last time these teams faced off, Villanova was the winner against the spread. When looking at these two teams most recent games, we can start to see some trends that might lend us to having a good idea about how this might go down.
Villanova is 6-4 ATS over their last 10 games. Three of those four losses came away from home. Even though the Wildcats have been playing winning basketball, they don't seem to cover as well when they're not playing on their home court.
Xavier is 4-6 over their last 10 ATS. However, the Musketeers played six away games in that stretch. Xavier was able to cover in three of the four home games they've played over the last 10 and have covered in three straight home games.
