Saturday afternoon, the USC Upstate Spartans will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The USC Upstate Spartans last game was just short of a glorified practice as they completely obliterated the Barber-Scotia Sabers 105 – 43.  The game was close for about 5 minutes before the Spartans started to run over the Sabers.  USC Upstate capped off the 1st half with a 3 –pointer that made it a 59 -23 game.  The Spartans continued to have their way with the Sabers in the 2nd half and at times it was just too difficult t watch as Barber Scotia shot just 21% overall.  USC Upstate shot 53% from the field and hit 14 3-pointers as they were led by Michael Buchanan and his 25 points.  But the Spartans will be facing a far better team in their next game and won’t have such an easy time of it.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets almost blew a great start in their last game but the held on for a 66 - 58 win over the Northwestern Wildcats.  Georgia Tech opened the game on a 20 - 2 run as Northwestern missed almost every shot that they put up.  At the half, the Yellow Jackets were up 31 -18 and things seemed secure. But the Wildcats found their shooting stroke in the 2nd half and made it a 3 point game with just seconds remaining.  Northwestern had to foul but fortunately Georgia Tech made their free throw shots to hold on.   Charles Mitchell led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points as they shot 45% from the field. If Georgia tech suffers another breakdown late, they might not be able to recover like they did in this one.
