Saturday afternoon, the Massachusetts Minutemen will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a battle of two 3 -0 teams.

The Massachusetts Minutemen picked up their 3rd win of the season after needing overtime to beat the Manhattan Jaspers  by the score of 77 – 68.  The Jaspers played the Minutemen harder than many expected and early on it was a battle.  The teams went into the locker rooms at the half tied at 28 – 28 and the 2nd half turned out to be just as close.  The slim 2 point lead that UMass held with 2 seconds left faded away as Manhattan scored at the buzzer to force overtime.  But the Jaspers ran out of steam in the extra period and the Minutemen escaped with the win.  UMass was led by Cady Lalanne and his 23 points as they shot just 40% from the field and only 20% from beyond the arc.  Better shooting will almost be demanded by UMass if they want to beat Notre Dame.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish handed out a 104 -67 beating to the Coppin State Eagles on Wednesday night.   The Irish put the Eagles out of the game early after they opened things up with a 19 – 2 run.   From that point on, it was all Notre Dame as they benefited from the advantage that better shooting and better rebounding affords.  Notre Dame shot a lusty 65 % from the field as they were led by Zach Auguste, who shot 9 for 9 from the field and 3 for 3 from the charity stripe to put 21 points on the box score.   If Notre Dame shoots like that against UMass, they will go to 4 - 0.
