In a very unlikely Championship game matchup, John Calipari's young Kentucky Wildcats will take on Kevin Ollie's UConn Huskies. This will be the first ever Championship game where a 7 seed and an 8 seed will meet up.
Kentucky made it's way to Monday's game in heart stopping fashion, winning 3 straight games with clutch 3-pointers by Aaron Harrison. Harrison sank a go-ahead 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds left to stun Wisconsin and Bo Ryan on Saturday night 74-73. It was the 3rd straight game that Harrison hit a clutch shot to advance the Wildcats to the next round. First he did it against Louisville in the Sweet 16, and then he broke the hearts of Michigan faithful by burying a long 3-pointer to beat the Wolverines last Sunday. Although Harrison was the one to hit the shot, he was far from the only Wildcat that contributed to the victory over Wisconsin. James Young led Kentucky with 17 points while Julius Randle poured in 16 points and 5 rebounds.
Connecticut is even a more unlikely team than Kentucky to advance to the Championship game. Led by possibly the best back court in the country, Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright, the Huskies stunned #1 overall seed Florida on Saturday to reach the title game. UConn used suffocating 2nd half defense and timely shots to beat the Gators 63-53 less than a week after stunning tournament favorite Michigan State. DeAndre Daniels led the Huskies with 20 points and 10 boards. Napier contributed 12 points while Boatright scored 13. It was the Husky defense that impressed, however, as they held Florida to 38% shooting overall including 10% (1-10) behind the 3 point line.
