Monday night, the UC Irvine Anteaters will take on the Oregon Ducks.

The UC Irvine Anteaters   won their 2nd game in a row back on December 22nd when they edged the Green Bay Phoenix 72 -70.  Green Bay opened the game on a 9 - 0 run but UC Irvine fought back.  By the midway point of the 1st half, the Anteaters had taken control.  The Phoenix made a slight rally to close the half but the Anteaters were still up 39 – 33.  The game was even closer the rest of the way as the Anteaters were unable to really break away from the Phoenix. It wasn’t until the final seconds that the game was really decided.  UC Irvine shot 46% overall and 62% from 3-point distance as they were led by Alex Young and his 18 points.  To get past the Ducks, the Anteaters will need to be just as sharp from 3-point land as they were against the Phoenix.

The Oregon Ducks notched their 4th straight victory on December 22nd after they beat the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 82 – 78 in overtime.  The Ducks led for almost all of the 1st half but they weren’t able to stretch out against the Gauchos.  UC Santa Barbara stayed close to Oregon and the Ducks went into the locker rooms at the half up 36 - 30. Just a few baskets into the 2nd half, the Gauchos had the lead.  From that point on, it was a battle.  The Ducks fell behind but they fought back to send the game into overtime where they had just enough fight left to slip past the Gauchos.  The Ducks were paced by Joseph Young and his 25 point effort as Oregon shot 53% from the field.  With another California school on tap, the Ducks will try to keep their win streak alive but it will be tough.
