When the Kansas Jayhawks visited the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Feb. 18, the Jayhawks almost got more than they could handle. With late heroics from Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid, the Jayhawks were able to hold off the Red Raiders by one point in a 64-63 win.
The Red Raiders were up two with 16 seconds left behind Robert Turner's two free throws but Kansas got the ball upcourt for a Wiggins miss and Embiid follow up dunk. Early in the game, Kansas held a 10 point lead but Texas Tech ended up making this a tight one throughout. Both teams played well and were evenly matched during the entire game. There were 13 lead changes and nine times where the score was tied. In the end, Wiggins and Embiid came through with clutch performances. Wiggins finished the game with 19 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. He also got help from Embiid, who on his first game back from injury tallied 18 points, eight rebounds and a block.
Texas Tech was led by Jordan Tolbert with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. The Red Raiders got nice games out of most of the team with five players scoring in double digits. In the end it just wasn't enough.
Over the last 10 times Kansas and Texas Tech have played each other, Kansas is 6-4 against the spread. However, over the last four games the home team has covered ATS. Texas Tech is coming off their fifth straight loss and third straight ATS. Kansas is also coming off of a loss to Oklahoma State and is .500 ATS over the last 10 games. Both of these teams aren't covering well right now but Kansas has been playing better as of late. We also like that this game is being played at Allen Fieldhouse as the home team has performed well ATS lately.
