Monday night, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles will face the LSU Tigers.   

The Southern Miss Eagles lost their 2nd straight game on December 21st when they fell to the Georgia State Panthers 68 – 55.  The 1st half was a back and forth battle until the late stages when the Panthers started to impose their will on the Eagles. Southern Miss hit a 3-pointer to close out the half but they were still down 38 – 29.  The Eagles got within 5 points early in the 2nd half before the Panthers shut down any chances of a rally.  Georgia State controlled things for the rest of the way.  The Eagles were paced by Chip Armelin’s 16 points as Southern Miss shot 38% overall and 40% from the distance.  Turnovers hurt the Eagles in their last game and if they turn over the ball against LSU, they will pay for it.

The LSU Tigers won their 6th straight game on December 22nd after dispatching the College of Charleston Cougars 71 -47.  The Cougars were able to keep up with Tigers early on but LSU pulled away later on in the 1st half to take a 20 point lead at halftime.   All through the 2nd half, the Tigers maintained their double-digit lead over the Cougars.  LSU held their opponents to just 28% shooting as they shot 47% overall and 46% from beyond the arc.  Jarell Marin came off the bench to lead the Tigers with 18 points.   If the Tigers get off to another solid start, the Eagles will have a hard time keeping pace and a 7th straight LSU victory will be almost certain.
