The UNLV Rebels visited the San Diego State Aztecs at Viejas Arena on January 18 of this year. The Aztecs were able to pull away in this one thanks to taking advantage of free throws and Xavier Thames. Thames led the Aztecs with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Josh Davis was also a big factor in this game with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The game started off rough with both teams shooting poorly. The Rebels went on a 19-2 run and went into halftime with 28-11 lead. In the second half, the Rebels closed the gap and were within five points. The Aztecs then hit some timely free throws and had a thunderous dunk by JJ O'Brien. The Aztecs finished the game with 16 more attempted free throws than the Rebels and made 21 of 27. The Aztecs also out rebounded the Rebels by 10. Roscoe Smith did his best to keep UNLV in the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn't enough as San Diego State went on to win it's 15th straight.
Since that game, the Aztecs have lost two more games and are sitting at 25-3. UNLV is 19-10 and would love to play spoiler to any high seedings the Aztecs were hoping to get in the NCAA Tournament.
Over the last 10 games these two have met San Diego State has won against the spread in eight of 10. In their last 10 games overall, the Aztecs have covered in six of their last 10. The Rebels are also 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games but have covered in four of their last five. Even with this being a home game for UNLV, San Diego State has been playing very good lately. The home court advantage might be enough to get the Rebels a win but their luck ATS hasn't been as good.
