New Mexico (27-6) is in the NCAA tournament for the third straight season, but they're hoping the coaching switch from Steve Alford to Craig Neal results in a more prolonged postseason stay. Stanford's 21 Pac-12 wins were enough to earn them an at-large bid in the tournament but they're considered slight underdogs with the line opening up at New Mexico -4.5.
Stanford benefits from winning two games in the Pac-12 tournament as they were on shaky ground after losing 3 of 4 to end the season. Stanford proved they can play with the NCAA elite as they've posted wins over UCLA and Oregon on the year while losing by only 3 to both Arizona and Michigan. The Cardinal are making their first tourney appearance since 2008 and will be led by 6'10” Dwight Powell and an experienced starting lineup that features 3 juniors and 2 seniors.
The Lobos feature a defensive minded team led by dual threat point guard Kendall Williams. The 6'4” senior shoots 40% from three point range and is considered one of the best defenders in the NCAA. Cameron Bairstow could also become a household name during the 2014 tourney as the 6'9” Australian averages 20.3 points per game while pulling down 7.4 boards a contest. UNM's monstrous lineup also features 7 footer Alex Kirk who averages 13.6 points and 8.7 rebounds a game.
