Tuesday night, the NJIT Highlanders will take on the Villanova Wildcats.

The NJIT Highlanders broke a 2 game losing streak on Saturday with an 84 – 76 victory over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils.  NJIT started our slow and that allowed Central Connecticut St. to take the advantage in the beginning of the 1st half.  But the Highlanders got back in the game late in the 1st and they took a 7 point lead into the locker rooms at the half.  The Highlanders came out for the 2nd half with a new attitude and they didn’t trail for the rest of the way.  Damon Lynn paced the Highlanders with 16 points as NJIT shot 53% overall and 45% from 3 point distance.  NJIT showed that they can shake off a weak 1st half to come back and win but they will have to face a Villanova team that knows a little bit about comebacks themselves.

The Villanova Wildcats seemed headed for the 1st loss of the season on Saturday against the Syracuse Orange but they rallied back for an 82 -77 overtime win.  Jay Wright’s Wildcats were sluggish in the 1st half and Jim Boeheim’s Orange took full advantage. At the half, Syracuse was up by 12 and Villanova was reeling.  But the Wildcats came back in the 2nd half.  Villanova slowly battled back and they tied things up with just seconds left to send the game to OT.  It was back and forth in overtime but Villanova pulled away late to seal the win.  JayVaughn Pinkston led the Wildcats with 25 points as Villanova shot just 41% overall.  NJIT could be a threat to Villanova’s chances of going 12 -0 but the Wildcats should be able to pull out the win.
