On Wednesday afternoon, the Minnesota Golden Gophers will face the Purdue Boilermakers.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers extended their win streak to 8 on Saturday with a 108 -82 blowout victory over the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks. Despite the final result of the game, the Seahawks started out strong. UNC-Wilmington led for most of 1st half but the Gophers woke up as the half came to a close. A late run put Minnesota on top 54 -38 at the half and that’s where they stayed the rest of the way. The Seahawks couldn’t match their 2nd half effort with their 1st half effort and that hurt them. Minnesota shot 59% from the field and 62% from beyond the arc as Carlos Morris led the way with a career high 24 points. The Gophers have been on a tear as of late and they look unstoppable.
The Purdue Boilermakers lost their 3rd straight game on December 22nd after falling to the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs 89 -84. Purdue started the game on a 15 - 3 run and it looked like they would have no trouble ending their losing streak. As they half drew to a close, the lead disappeared and by halftime it was a 38 - 38 game. Gardner-Webb continued their run to open the 2nd half and Purdue never recovered. Although the Boilermakers came within 2 points late, they couldn’t regain the lead. The Boilermakers shot 47% overall and 26% from 3-point distance as they were led by the 13 point efforts of Jon Octeus, Bryson Scott and Rapheal Davis. Until Purdue finds a way to tighten up their perimeter defense and stop opposing teams from hitting the “3”, the losses will continue.
