Tuesday night, the Miami Hurricanes will take on the North Carolina-Charlotte 49ers.
The 5 -0 Miami Hurricanes will face the North Carolina-Charlotte 49ers for the 2nd time in as many games on Tuesday night. Miami beat North Carolina-Charlotte 77 - 58 to win the Gildan Charleston Classic on Sunday night. The Hurricanes looked to take control of the game and with a strong start, they did just that. By the half, Miami was up by a comfortable 38 – 31 margin. Miami built on the momentum gained at the end of the 1st half as they continued to roll over North Carolina-Charlotte in the 2nd half. The Hurricanes were led by Sheldon McClellan and his 19 points as the team shot 50 % from the field but just 27 % from beyond the arc. Miami did have 5 players in double figures though. Miami isn’t expected to change their strategy much in this one as they will try to replicate Sunday night’s success.
The North Carolina-Charlotte 49ers couldn’t have been happy with their result in Sunday night’s game. The 49ers had been very successful during in-season tournament play in the last few seasons and they looked to extend their 8 game in-season tournament win streak. But early on, things seem to conspire against them. A leg injury took out leading scorer Braxton Ogbueze in the 1st half and without him the 49ers chances dimmed. Without Ogbueze in the lineup for the remainder of the game, the 49ers couldn’t get anything going. North Carolina-Charlotte shot just 43 % from the field but they shot 40% from 3-point range. Whether Ogbueze is able to go Tuesday or not, the 49ers will still need to avoid the slow start that doomed them Sunday. They will also have to tighten up their defense or back to back losses will be almost certain.
