The Manhattan Jaspers will head to Tallahassee Florida and take on the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday afternoon. This game is the start of the Hall of Fame Tip off Tournament. The Seminoles and Jaspers join with Boston and Northeastern. Florida State went 22-14 a season ago and recorded a 9-9 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Manhattan went 25-8 and finished second in the MAAC with a 15-5 record.
Florida State scored 70.4 points per game a season ago, led by Aaron Thomas. The junior will return this season, and look to improve upon his 14.5 points and 4.2 rebounds of a season ago. The Seminoles will look to replace point guard Ian Miller. The 6’3 guard was second on the team with 13.7, and led with 2.9 assists per game. Florida State fell in the ACC tournament to Virginia, and failed to reach the NCAA tournament. In the NIT, the Seminoles won three games, before falling to Minnesota in overtime.
For Manhattan, they ranked 38th in the country a season ago, scoring 77.4 points per game. The Jaspers are going to look to rebound from losing their top two scorers of a season ago. George Beamon led the team with 19.2 points per game, while Michael Alvarado added 12 per game. The Jaspers won 11 out of their last 12 a season ago, including their conference title game over Iona. In the NCAA tournament, the Jaspers were competitive; but fell to Louisville 71-64.
