Wednesday night, the Loyola Marymount Lions will visit the Stanford Cardinal.

The Loyola Marymount Lions lost a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks by a score of 71 – 69.  The teams went back and forth in the 1st half and by the break Northern Arizona was up by just 3 points.  The Lumberjacks quickly expanded on their lead to open the 2nd half but the Lions wouldn’t die.  Loyola Marymount rallied and got back into the game.  It was all tied up with less than a minute to go but the Lumberjacks made use of the charity stripe to pull ahead enough to get the win.  The Lions were paced by Evan Payne and his 32 points as the team shot 45% from the field and 36% from the distance.  The Lions will need to play just as hard if they want to end their road loss streak against a Stanford team that is undefeated at home.

The Stanford Cardinal fell behind early and needed a rally to get past the Denver Pioneers 49 -43 on Saturday night.  The Pioneers gave the Cardinal more trouble than they expected early on as they opened the game on a 13 - 2 run.  Denver would hold an 8 point lead at the half and they could almost smell the upset.  But the Cardinal woke up in the 2nd half and Stanford mounted the rally.  Denver battled as hard as they could but they just didn’t have enough left to hold on for the win.  Stanford was led by Anthony Brown and his 17 point night as the Cardinal shot just 31% from the field.  If the Cardinal was to hold on to their unbeaten streak at home, they will need to get on top of the Lions early on to avoid the need for another late rally.
