The Louisville Cardinals were led by their senior class in their win against the SMU Mustangs on Jan. 4. Luke Hancock tallied 23 points, 2 rebounds and two assists for the Cardinals while Russ Smith added 23 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. With his 23 points, Hancock set his career high and added two free throws with 46 seconds left in the game to finish off the Mustangs. As a team, Louisville ended up shooting 47.2 percent from the field.
SMU was led by Markus Kennedy with 12 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. The Mustangs out rebounded the Cardinals by 10 but shot a season low 36.9 percent from the field. Add to those numbers that they were 13-25 from the charity stripe and you've got a recipe for a tough loss. Even with their accuracy issues, the Mustangs were still in the game late in the second half. Louisville had gone up by 17 at one point in the first half and ended the half up 12. The Mustangs made their adjustments and came out firing in the second half and brought the game within four points before Hancock made those two clutch free throws to seal the game.
Louisville is currently coming off a loss to Memphis by a score of 72-66. Before that, they had won seven straight. They'll be looking to get back into the win column when they play SMU. SMU has won three straight and eight of 10.
These teams have only faced each other once and SMU was able to win against the spread. The Mustangs are 7-3 ATS over their last 10 games with six of those coming at home. On the other hand, Louisville is 5-5 ATS.
