Sunday afternoon, the Long Beach State 49ers will take on the Syracuse Orange.

The Long Beach State 49ers dropped their 4^th straight game back on December 22^nd when they lost to the St. John's Red Storm by a score of 66 - 49. The 49ers trailed for most of the 1^st half but the game was never too far ahead of them. At halftime, Long Beach State was down by just 4 points. The game was just as close in the 2^nd half but the 49ers couldn't find a way to get past the Red Storm. In the later stages of the game, St. John's finally pulled a way to seal the win. Long Beach State shot just 32% overall as they were led by Mike Caffey and his 13 points. Long Beach State will see the slide continue as long as they struggle on the offensive end and things won't be any easier against Syracuse.

The Syracuse Orange ran over the Colgate Raiders on December 22^nd to take a 78 - 43 victory. After blowing a lead in their loss to Villanova a few days prior, the Orange were determined to shake off the loss as they took on Colgate. The Orange wasted no time getting on top of the Raiders and by halftime, Syracuse was up 43 - 13. In the 2^nd half, the Orange didn't suffer another defensive breakdown as they shut down the Raiders while maintaining a double digit lead. Syracuse was paced by Trevor Cooney and his 20 point effort as Syracuse shot 46% from the field. The Orange will look to take advantage of the slumping 49ers with the same type of intensity that they showed against Colgate.
