Tuesday night, the Kent State Golden Flashes will face the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Kent State Golden Flashes saw their 4 game win streak end on December 22nd as they fell to the UTEP Miners by the score of 78 - 75. The 1 st half went back and forth as neither team could find a way to stretch out against their opponent. As the half drew to a close, the Miners found a way to build a 7 point lead as they went to the locker rooms. But the Golden Flashes would come out for the 2nd half with a renewed focus and even though the Miners took a double digit lead, Kent State fought back to make it a single digit lead with just second left to go. But time ran out for the Golden Flashes but it was the type of effort that they will need against Kansas. Kent State shot just 39% overall and 32% from 3-point land as Jimmy Hall led the way with 20 points.
The Kansas Jayhawks took a stunning loss back on December 22nd as they fell 77 - 52 to the Temple Owls. The top 10 ranked Jayhawks probably went to Philadelphia thinking that they would have an easy time against the Owls. But things didn't turn out that way for Kansas. Temple set the tone early with a 12 - 2 run that might have shocked Kansas. The Owls kept up the pressure and the Jayhawks needed a 3-pointer at the close of the 1st half to make it a 10 point Temple lead. The Jayhawks opened the 2nd half trying to avoid the upset that seemed to be in the making but the Owls didn't waver in their determination as they prevented Kansas from getting close enough to make a difference. The Jayhawks were led by Frank Mason III and his 20 points as they shot just 32% from the field. Kansas committed 17 turnovers while allowing Temple to shoot 58%. The numbers will need to be better for Bill Self's squad if they want to beat even the Golden Flashes.
