Thursday afternoon, the Kansas Jayhawks will face the Rhode Island Rams.

The Kansas Jayhawks shook off their first loss of the season by beating the Rider Broncs 87 – 60 Monday night.  The lack of scoring that led to the loss to Kentucky wasn’t a factor in this one as Kansas sprinted out to a 51 -22 lead at the half.  The Broncs made a game of it in the 2nd half but that big Jayhawks’ lead was just insurmountable.  Kansas was paced by Perry Ellis and Brannen Greene, who each had 17 points. The Jayhawks shot 59% from the field and 35 % from 3-point distance.  It’s obvious that Bill Self will have his team up for a challenge against the undefeated Rams of Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Rams boosted their record to 3 – 0 after upsetting the Nebraska Cornhuskers with a 66 – 62 overtime victory last Saturday night.  Nebraska led the tight game 23 -19 at the half but Rhode Island had plenty of fight left for the rest of the game. The Rams battled back in the 2nd half to force overtime.  And in overtime, the Rams took control early and never looked back as they took out the Cornhuskers.  E.C. Mathews led the Rams with 26 points but the Rams shot just 34% from the field and 15% from beyond the arc.  Nebraska shot equally poor numbers and that aided Rhode Island.  But the Rams will need better shooting to get past a Jayhawks team with a renewed purpose.
