Saturday night, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will take on the BYU Cougars.
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors didn’t have much trouble getting past the Delaware State Hornets 75 – 60 in their last game on Tuesday night. The Rainbow Warriors took control early behind a 10 - 2 run and they never looked back. As Hawaii was making their shots on the offensive end, they were forcing Delaware State into missed shots and turnovers on the defensive end. At the half, Hawaii was up 37 - 23 and the result of the game was no longer in doubt. The Rainbow Warriors kept up the pressure in the 2nd half and maintained a double digit lead the rest of the game. Hawaii shot 46% overall and 35% from beyond the arc as they were led by Aaron Valdes and his 19 point effort. Hawaii will need the same type of performance on both ends of the floor against BYU if they want to get their 8th win of the season.
The BYU Cougars didn’t have as easy a time in their last game but they managed to comeback and beat the Utah State Aggies 91 – 81. The 1st half was a back and forth affair as neither team could take more than a 6 point advantage. At the half, Utah State was up by the slim margin of 1 point. The 2nd half was just as close as the 1st but midway through, the Cougars started to pull away. They built up a double digit lead and were able to hold off the Aggies for the win. BYU was paced by Tyler Haws and his season high 35 point night as the Cougars shot just 39% from the field and only 20% from 3-point distance. Even though they regained their footing and got the win, BYU will have to get more shots in the basket to get a win over Hawaii.
