Wednesday night, the Grambling State Tigers will visit the Washington Huskies.
The Grambling State Tigers took a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Oregon State Beavers on Monday night. The Tigers fell 71 – 43 in a game that was basically over after the 1st half. Oregon State opened the game on a 7 -0 run and never let up on Grambling. By the half, the Tigers were down 41 – 9 and the hole was too big for them to climb out of. Grambling tried to make the score respectable in the 2nd half and they basically achieved that but it was still a big loss. The Tigers shot just 28% from the field as they were led by Mark Gray and his 14 point effort. The prospects for a win over the Huskies seem slim for the tigers but they will certainly try to avoid another humiliating loss.
The Washington Huskies saved their best basketball for 2nd half as they beat the Eastern Washington Eagles 81 – 77 on Sunday night. The Eagles stunned the Huskies by starting strong. For most of the 1st half, Eastern Washington led the way and at the half, they were up by an impressive 11 points. The Eagles continued to set the pace in the 2nd half and seemed to be on the way to a huge upset. But midway through the 2nd half, the Huskies began their comeback. They erased a 10 point deficit to get the lead with less than 2 minutes to go and they held on for the rest of the way. Robert Upshaw led the Huskies with a career best 21 points as Washington shot 46% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc. Washington remains undefeated coming into Wednesday’s game but they got a lesson in not underestimating an opponent and that will serve them well as the season progresses.
