Wednesday night, the Georgetown Hoyas will face the Xavier Musketeers.

The Georgetown Hoyas extended their win streak to 3 after they beat the Indiana Hoosiers 91 – 87 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.  The teams battled back and forth throughout the 1st half but Indiana pulled away as halftime approached to take a 10 point advantage at the break.  Georgetown tried to cut into the deficit in the 2nd half but Indiana didn’t make it easy. In the final minutes of regulation, the Hoyas finally gained control but a last second shot from beyond the arc by the Hoosiers sent the game to overtime. It was in that overtime period that Georgetown finally got the edge and that propelled them to the victory.  The Hoyas were led by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera’s 29 point effort as they shot 51% from the field and 58% from beyond the arc.  If the Hoyas can shoot like that on Wednesday, the Musketeers will be in trouble.

The Xavier Musketeers escaped with a 71 -57 victory over the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Sunday afternoon.  The Eagles didn’t seem intimidated by the Musketeers early on and that meant a close than expected game.   But the Musketeers finally got some separation from the Eagles and that allowed Xavier to take a 43 - 29 lead at the half.  The Xavier lead really wasn’t threatened in the 2nd half although that was for lack of trying by Florida Gulf Coast.  But the Eagles were just out of their depth against the Musketeers.  Xavier shot just 43% overall and 37% from the distance as they were paced by Remy Abell and his 13 point day.  As Big East play starts, the Musketeers will need to shoot better than they did against the Eagles if they want to stop the Hoyas.
