On Sunday night, the George Washington Colonials will play their first road game of the season when they visit the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who will be playing their first game as a member of the Big Ten. The Colonials defeated the Scarlet Knights 93-87 at home last year.
George Washington opened their season on Friday night by easily defeating Grambling State 92-40 on their home court. They had a 49-24 rebounding advantage in that win and they were able to hold Grambling State to just a 29.3 percent field goal percentage.
Freshman forward Yuta Watanabe had eight points and seven rebounds for the Colonials in that opening game win, while junior forward Patricio Garino came off of the bench to score game-high 21 points. Kevin Larsen was another contributor off of George Washington's bench by scoring 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
Rutgers is expected to be a much better team than they were last year, but they should still land near the bottom of the Big Ten standings. Last season, the Scarlet Knights lost seven of their last nine games to finish with a 5-13 record in the AAC and a 12-21 overall record.
The Scarlet Knights' main problem last season was their inability to take care of the ball, turning it over 13 times a game. They do have a lot of returning players this season, including guard Myles Mack, who averaged a team-high 14.9 points and 4.3 assists per game last year.
