Wednesday night, the Eastern Michigan Eagles will face the Michigan State Spartans.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles will come to East Lansing still high off their 45 – 42 upset win over the Michigan Wolverines back on December 9th.  After seeing NJIT upset the Wolverines a few days prior, the Eagles felt that they had a chance against Michigan.  And they did. But it didn’t look that way early on as the Wolverines opened the game on a 10 - 2 run.  The Eagles fought back and cut the deficit to just 2 points at the half.  Eastern Michigan opened the 2nd half with a 3-pointer that gave them the lead and they never looked back.   The Eagles tightened up on the defensive end and got the scoring they needed to slip past the Wolverines in one of the biggest wins in school history.  Eastern Michigan shot just 32% from the field as they were paced by Jodan Price and his 11 point effort.  Even with their best effort, it will be tough for them to pull off another upset but that won’t stop Eastern Michigan from trying.

The Michigan State Spartans had no problem cruising past the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 87 - 61 on Sunday night.  Michigan State let Oakland hang around for most of the 1st half but as the half drew to a close, the Spartans started to pull away.  By halftime, the Spartans were comfortably ahead by 13 points and firmly in control.  The Golden Grizzlies tried to get close in the 2nd half but a Spartan victory was never really in doubt.  Michigan State was led by Denzel Valentine’s 19 points as they shot 55% from the field and 58% from beyond the arc.  The Spartans will be on alert for the Eagles but it will be a tall task for Eastern Michigan to upset another in-state opponent.
