Coming off of a rough 2013-14 season, the Coppin State Eagles will get a chance to see how much they've improved when they take on the high-scoring the Oregon Ducks on Friday afternoon.
Last season, Coppin State had two losing streaks of five or more games, but they were able to win three out of their last four games. The Eagles finished the year with a 7-9 record in the MEAC standings and a 12-20 overall record.
Coppin State had one of the worst team field goal percentages in the country last season by only making 39 percent of their shots. Their top returning scorer is junior guard Sterling Smith, who averaged 10.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last year. Guard Taariq Cephas averaged 9.4 points and a team-high 4.1 assists per game last season.
Oregon had a couple of long winning streaks last year and ended up going 10-8 in the Pac 12 and 24-10 overall. They made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament where they lost 85-77 to second-seeded Wisconsin.
Oregon had one of the best offenses in the country last season by scoring 81.8 points per game. The Ducks' best player, Joseph Young, will return after averaging 18.9 points per game last season. Elgin Cook, who averaged 6.7 points per game last year, is the best of the rest of their players coming back this season.
