Thursday night, the Cleveland State Vikings will take on the Virginia Cavaliers.

The Cleveland State Vikings had no trouble at all in their last game as they dispatched the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars 86 – 40 on Monday night.  Cleveland State opened with a 15 - 2 run and they never let up on Mount Vernon Nazarene.  By halftime, the Vikings were up 43 – 16 on the Cougars and the game’s end result was no longer in doubt.  The 2nd half featured more of the same for Cleveland State as Mount Vernon Nazarene just couldn’t keep up.  Cleveland State shot 53% overall and 52% from beyond the arc as they were led by Trey Lewis’ career high 32 points.  The Vikings will need the same type of effort if they want to have a shot at dealing the Cavaliers their first loss of the season.

The Virginia Cavaliers improved to 9 – 0 after embarrassing the Virginia Commonwealth Rams 74 – 57 back on December 6th.  That game was tight in the beginning with neither team willing to give an inch to their opponents.  At the midway point of the 1st half, the Cavaliers began to pull away and they took a 10 point lead into the half. VCU came back in the 2nd half but Virginia had one last surge that put the game away for them.  The Cavaliers shot an impressive 68% from the field and 54% from beyond the arc as they were led by the 21 point effort of Justin Anderson.  If the Cavaliers play the same way on Thursday, they should get win number 10.
