Wednesday night, the Cleveland State Vikings will face the Louisville Cardinals.
The Cleveland State Vikings fell to 2 – 2 after taking an 87 – 83 overtime loss to the Savannah State Tigers last Saturday afternoon. It was a close game throughout and at the half, Savannah State held on to slim 42 - 40 lead. In the 2nd half, Cleveland State gained control but they seemed to fall apart late. Savannah State mounted a rally and got a last second 3-pointer to send the game to overtime. The Tigers continued to hold on in the overtime period for the win. Cleveland State shot 50% overall and 335 from beyond the arc but they allowed Savannah State to shoot 52% and 61% from 3 point range. To have a chance against Louisville, Cleveland State will need to tighten up their defense.
The Louisville Cardinals remained undefeated after lighting up the Savannah State Tigers 87 -26 on Monday night. Louisville was good enough to beat Savannah State anyway but Savannah didn’t help themselves out. As Louisville made their shots, Savannah State missed theirs. At the half, the Cardinals were up 41 – 7 and the 2nd half was more of the same. The Cardinals shot 52% from the field and 40% from 3-point land while the Tigers shot a disappointing 19% from the field and were 0 for 16 from beyond the arc. Louisville will obviously face a greater challenge from Cleveland State but if the Cardinals turn in another stifling defensive effort, another win is almost guaranteed.
