Monday night, the Citadel Bulldogs will square off against the Michigan State Spartans.

The Citadel Bulldogs suffered a 2nd half collapse on Saturday afternoon that led to a 64 -61 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies.  The 1st half was a back and forth battle between the Bulldogs and the Hokies. The Citadel came out ahead by halftime with a 5 point lead after Virginia Tech missed two 3-pointers in the closing seconds.  The missed 3’s didn’t dissuade the Hokies from taking shots in the 2nd half though.  And slowly, Virginia Tech made their climb back. The shots stopped falling for The Citadel and although they came close in the final seconds, they just couldn’t get the lead back.  The Citadel was paced by Ashton Moore and his 27 points but they shot just 33% overall and 38% from beyond the arc.  Shooting like that will not be enough to get past the Michigan State Spartans.

The #25 ranked Michigan State Spartans took a 71 - 64 overtime loss to the Texas Southern Tigers on Saturday afternoon. Michigan State started off well as expected but they never really pulled away from Texas Southern.  While the Spartans were up by 5 at the half, the lead wasn’t secure.  The Spartans let the tigers hang around in the 2nd half and that forced Michigan State to have to fight to force overtime.  In overtime, the tigers took over and scored one of the biggest upsets in school history.   The Spartans shot just 39% overall and 19% from the distance as they were led by Matt Costello’s 17 points.  The Spartans will certainly look to shake off the stunning loss by taking out their frustration on The Citadel.
