On Friday, the 16 seed Cal Poly Mustangs will face the 1 seed Wichita State Shockers after winning their first round game against the Texas Southern Tigers on Wednesday. Cal Poly ended the regular season with a 14-19 overall record and 6-10 America East conference record. The Mustangs started off the season 0-3 and then 4-9 earlier this year. Heading into the Big West Conference tournament, they had lost 9-of-11 games. This didn't stop the Mustangs from making their improbable run to beat the Cal State Northridge Matadors in the conference final. They were the No. 7 seed in the eight team conference tournament so their Cinderella story is one to talk about. The Mustangs are led in scoring and rebounding by senior forward Chris Eversley, who averages 19 ppg and nine rpg. Eversley was able to lead the Mustangs to their first tournament win ever, but now they'll be facing a team that hasn't lost a game all season.

The Wichita State Shockers are coming off a fantastic season which they ended with a 34-0 overall record. There was some debate as to whether or not the Shockers would get a one seed so they'll be looking to prove the naysayers wrong as they try to duplicate another Final Four run. They earned their 10th tournament appearance behind solid guard play and good defense. Cleanthony Early leads the shockers and averages 15.8 points a game. If the Shockers can make it through their first two games, they might get a shot to redeem themselves against a Louisville Cardinals team the put them out of the tournament last year in the Final Four.
