On Thursday, the 16 seed Albany Great Danes will face the Florida Gators after winning their 1st round game against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday. Albany ended the regular season with an 18-14 overall record and 9-7 America East conference record. To get a shot at the NCAA tournament, they were able to make a run in the conference tournament and beat the Stony Brook Seawolves. What this did was give them a shot at Mount St. Mary's for an opportunity to play the jaugernaut known as the Florida Gators.

That being said, this game had to be played first before they could worry about the Gators. Albany was able to hold off Mount St. Mary's 71-64. D.J. Evans led the Great Danes with 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. His short stature (5'9) was in no way indicative of the way he played. Now Evans will have to lead the Great Danes into a game where they are big underdogs to see if they can make the impossible happen. A 16 seed has never beaten a 1 seed and the 1 seeds this year are 39-0 against teams with a 150 RPI or higher.

The Florida Gators are coming into this game the number one overall seed after slipping by the Kentucky Wildcats in the SEC Conference Tournament 61-60. The Gators finished the regular season with a 32-2 overall record and an impressive 18-0 conference record. This will be their 18th tournament appearance and they have an overall tournament record of 38-16. The Gators are led in scoring by Casey Prather who averages 14.2 ppg.
