The Golden State Warriors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Warriors lead the series 1-0. The opening line had the Warriors as 6.5 point favorites and the over/under is set at 201.5.
The big story coming into this game is the unfortunate status of Kyrie Irving. He has been diagnosed with a fractured kneecap and is now out for the season. The injury happened in the overtime period in Irving's best playoff performance this year. As exciting as Game 1 was, this injury makes it feel like the series may be over. Game 1 was a classic, however, as there were 13 lead changes and 11 ties. Most of the final stats were dead even as well, but you get a feeling that may be the best game of the series.
Lebron James was 18 for 38 from the field for the Cavs. He ended up with 44 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in the losing effort. Irving had 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists up until the injury. Tristan Thompson chipped in with 15 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive end.
Stephen Curry led Golden State with 26 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds. Klay Thompson added 21 points and 6 rebounds while Draymond Green had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Warriors bench was a huge storyline, as they outscored Cleveland 34-9. J.R. Smith was the only Cav bench player to score. Curry started off the overtime with 4 straight free throws, and the Warriors never looked back. They eventually grew the lead to 8 before Cleveland even scored, and by then the game was in the books. Golden State is now 47-3 at home this season, including 8-1 in the playoffs.
