On Saturday, May 31, the San Antonio Spurs will visit the Oklahoma City Thunder to try to close out the series and punch their ticket to the NBA Finals. On Thursday night, Tim Duncan led his Spurs past the Thunder 117-89. Duncan led the way for the Spurs with 22 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and a block. The win put the Spurs up 3-2 in the series and put the Thunder’s collective back against the wall.
After the first quarter ended in a tie, the Spurs never looked back and led the rest of the way. After outscoring the Thunder by 10 in the second and third quarter, the Spurs’ starters were able to sit most of the fourth and try to get a little break before the possible closeout game on Saturday. Also contributing with a solid game for the Spurs was Manu Ginobili with 19 points on 7-9 shooting with four rebounds and six assists. Tony Parker also put up solid numbers with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal. The Spurs have won seven straight home games by at least 15 points going all the way back to the first round against the Mavericks.
The Thunder were once again led by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, who combined for 46 points on the night. Durant finished with 25 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. Westbrook ended the night with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting with four rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
One of the keys of the game for the Spurs was to expose Serge Ibaka. The Thunder have been very good with Ibaka in the lineup but tonight wasn’t his night and he only went 3-for-10 with six points, two rebounds, two assists and two blocks. The Spurs moved the ball well and got Ibaka out of position many times. This change was a big one and led to a dominant win by the Spurs.
Oklahoma City will look to push this game to a game seven on Saturday night.
