On Sunday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be hoping that their solid defense can handle the high-scoring Dallas Mavericks. During the 2013-14 season, the Mavs were able to win two out of their three games against the Thunder.

The Thunder held the Charlotte Hornets to just 35 second-half points on Friday night and came away with an easy 98-75 home win. Their defense forced 15 turnovers in that game and were able to hold the Hornets to a very low 28.7 field goal percentage.

Through 31 games this season, the Thunder haven't played very well on the offensive end of the court, but they have had one of the top defenses in the NBA. Point guard Russell Westbrook is one of the leading scorers in the league right now by averaging 28.6 points per game. Center Steven Adams has made 54.1 percent of his shots this season and is currently averaging 7.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

On Friday night, the Mavericks used a good defensive first half to help them beat the Los Angeles Lakers 102-98 at home. They only made five of their 18 three-point attempts in that win, but they shot 50.6 percent overall.

So far this season, the Mavericks are at the top of the Western Conference in scoring, but they have also given up over 102 points per game. In his first year with the Mavs, small forward Chandler Parsons has averaged 15.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
