The last time the New York Knicks played the Sacramento Kings, the Kings got big games from Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins to pull off the 106-101 overtime victory. This was the first time that Kings head coach Michael Malone faced off against the Knicks since leaving his assistant coaching position to take over the reigns in Sacramento.

The top player of the game for the Kings was Gay, who scored 20 points for the away team. His shot over Knicks power forward Amar'e Stoudemire with 20 seconds left in the overtime period tied the game. He then went on to make a game-sealing three-pointer to put the Knicks away.

Jimmer Fredette, playing like he did back when he starred for BYU, scored a season-best 24 points. He made six of the eight three-pointers that he attempted and scored 15 during a five minute stretch that got the Kings back into the game in the second quarter.

Carmelo Anthony was easily New York's best player, as he poured in 36 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss. However, with the ball in his hands and a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, he missed a shot, which sent the game to OT. He also failed to score in the extra period, which was a big reason for the loss.
