The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves last faced off in November. Behind Kevin Love's stellar performance, the Timberwolves were able to hold off the Knicks by a score of 109-100. Love finished the game with 34 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in a game that actually got close towards the end. However, every time the Knicks came within striking distance, Love was there to put out the fire.
The Timberwolves started the game like they were shot out of a cannon, scoring 40 points in the first quarter to the Knicks 19. At one point though, the Knicks closed the gap and brought the game within two points in the fourth quarter. However, behind Love and Kevin Martin, the Timberwolves wouldn't allow a comeback. Martin was a big factor in this game scoring 30 points on just 12 shots. Martin also contributed three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks in this one with 22 points and 17 rebounds but Anthony shot just 8-for-21. He got some help from Metta World Peace who added 17 points and four rebounds, but it wasn't enough to get past Love's Timberwolves. New York was playing without J.R. Smith and Amar'e Stoudemire as well.
Minnesota has performed well against the spread over the last 10 times they have faced New York going 6-4 and covering in three straight. The Timberwolves haven't covered as well lately going 5-5 over their last 10 games.
If Minnesota's performance ATS wasn't impressive, one surely won't be impressed with New York's 3-7 record ATS. In this stretch of games, the Knicks have gone 1-9 straight up and lost four straight ATS. They'll be looking to get back on track when they visit the Timberwolves at the Target Center on Wednesday.
