New Orleans has only 6 games remaining in what has been a disappointing season, finishing 10+ games out of the final playoff spot. They look to finish strong and build for next year behind budding superstar Anthony Davis. Portland meanwhile aims to continue their strong play as of late as they try to take the #4 spot from Houston and earn home court advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs.

The Pelicans had won five straight games including four over potential playoff teams until a recent three game skid. The remaining 2013/14 schedule can serve as a measuring stick for New Orleans as they finish out against five Western Conference playoff teams after their bout with Portland. Davis has basically been the lone bright spot for the Pelicans averaging 21.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Even so, New Orleans will miss the playoffs for the third straight year.

Portland has put a three game losing streak two weeks ago well into the rear-view mirror as they bounced back to win four straight games. The Blazers have just five games remaining in their quest to catch Houston for the four seed and thus gaining home court for their likely first round playoff series. They finish the year against Golden State and the Clippers so the three game stretch versus New Orleans, Sacramento, and Utah that much more crucial.

Portland has gone 2-1 against the Pelicans this year being favored in each game. The most recent matchup was a 111-103 Trailblazer win on March 14th as 2-point road favorites. Three Portland players scored in double figures to outpace 36 points from Davis.
