The New Orleans Pelicans will be going up against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night in an early-season Southwest Division matchup. New Orleans was able to beat the Grizzlies in three out of their four games against each other a season ago.
On Saturday, the Pelicans lost for the first time on the season when they were beaten 109-104 at home by the Dallas Mavericks. The big difference in the game was bench scoring, as the Mavs were able to get 36 points from their reserves while New Orleans' backups scored just 14 points.
The Pelicans are currently the top rebounding team in the NBA with 54.5 rebounds per game. Their best player so far this season has been center Anthony Davis, who is averaging 28.5 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks per game. Small forward Ryan Anderson is averaging 16.5 points and seven rebounds per game this season.
The Grizzlies held on for a 71-69 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday to stay undefeated. They won that game despite only shooting 36.3 percent from the field.
The Grizzlies have the best defense in the league so far this season by only giving up 86.3 points per game. Center Marc Gasol has played very well through three games, scoring 24.7 points per game while also grabbing 7.7 boards per game.
