The Detroit Pistons came alive when playing the Eastern Conference's best team when these two last played. The Pacers looked out of their element and were handed their first home game loss of the season. The Pistons' Josh Smith contributed 30 points while Greg Moore scored 13 points and grabbed 12 boards helping the Pistons put one in the win column with a 101-96 victory. One of the Pistons' biggest advantages was their rebounding, taking 55 boards to Indiana's 40 overall, but more impressive was their domination on the offensive glass as they pulled down 20 boards to Indiana's 9. The Pistons also outscored Indiana 44-38 in the paint and 22-14 on second chance attempts.

It was without a doubt a rare look for the Pacers. Roy Hibbert only put up six points and four boards. Paul George was only 4-14 from the field. He finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and four turnovers. Lance Stephenson and Luis Scola were about the only two good contributors of the game for the Pacers. Stephenson scored a career best 23 points and Scola dropped 18 points.

The Pacers were possibly looking past the Pistons and looking to a much more important game against Miami in the same week. In any event, the Pistons looked more like the Eastern Conference leaders than the Pacers, who broke their record 11-0 franchise home game winning streak. The Pistons made five of six free-throws in the final minutes to help keep the Pacers' final push from coming alive.
