The No. 7 seed Charlotte Bobcats held their own against the No. 2 seed Miami Heat for a large part of the first game of the series, but the Heat were able to make a big run in the fourth quarter to pull off the 99-88 home win. Both teams shot the ball well from three-point range, but the Heat did a bit better by making 11 of their 23 attempts in the game.

Charlotte started the game looking like the more focused team and ended up outscoring the Heat 23-19 in the first quarter. The Heat got the momentum in the second period, though, and went into the half up by seven points. The Bobcats were able to keep the game close into the fourth quarter, but the Heat had a late 18-4 run to eventually get the comfortable win.

LeBron James was the Heat's top player, scoring a game-high 27 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the win. Dwyane Wade was able to make 10 of his 16 field goal attempts and ended up with 23 points and five assists. James Jones was a surprising contributor for the Heat, scoring 12 points off the bench.

Charlotte power forward Al Jefferson was solid for the visitors and ended up with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but he did sustain a foot injury in the game. Kemba Walker was the Bobcats' top scorer in the game with 20 points, but he went just 6-for-15 from the field.
